About Us

Sha’arei Shalom has been serving the Jewish population of North Manchester and surrounding districts for almost half a century.

We are well established offering a full range of services and facilities from our home in purpose-built synagogue premises in Elms Street in Whitefield.

We are affiliated to the Movement for Reform Judaism (MRJ) in the United Kingdom and through MRJ to the World Union for Progressive Judaism (WUPJ), which represents over 1,200 Jewish communities in ninety or so countries around the world.

We offer all the activities expected from an established community:

– Shabbat and Festival services

– Jewish education for adults and children (arranged when requested)

– Varied social events

– Support for key life events such as brit milah (circumcision), baby-naming, bar/bat mitzvah, marriage and funerals

– Pastoral support for members

While Sha’arei Shalom does not have an ‘in-house’ Rabbi, we have rabbinic support from local and visiting Rabbis. A regular visitor is Rabbi Dr Robert Ash who works with our community team and may be consulted on matters such as Jewish status or life-cycle events.
